Enigma
Landmark immersive installation for Ovolo Hotel, Canberra.
Originally unveiled at The Other Art Fair, Sydney, Enigma was later commissioned by Ovolo Hotels as a landmark installation for the hotel’s formal dining space.
Spanning more than five metres in length and 2.5m in height, the four-panel artwork was designed as a single immersive statement piece. Integrated with portable high-powered lighting, the installation revealed hidden layers through light, creating a constantly evolving experience from day through to night. From one moment an ocean, to a sky filled with galaxies and nebulas.
Created by the clever use of layering techniques developed by Tommy specifically for large-scale pieces, the result is an artwork made not just to be viewed once, but to compliment a venue as it continuously reveals something new each and every time the projected lighting shifts.
Its scale and transformation quickly made Enigma a natural focal point within the venue. Guests were drawn towards the work, often stopping to photograph and share the experience, while the hotel observed increased activity and longer guest engagement within the space.
